The Weeknd has received a significant accolade from his hometown of Toronto.
On Saturday (July 26), the artist behind “Save Your Tears” was honored with the Key to the City and a citywide declaration of “The Weeknd Weekend” for July 26-27. According to Complex, the City of Toronto acknowledged the pop star for his achievements as a singer-songwriter and producer, his continuous humanitarian contributions, and his commitment to giving back to his community.
At a private ceremony, The Weeknd was acknowledged by Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, who was accompanied by youth from West Scarborough and students from The Weeknd’s former school, Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute. This honor came just ahead of the second leg of his After Hours Til Dawn 2025 Tour, which will take place in Toronto from July 27–28 and August 7–8.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive the Key to the City. It feels wonderful to be home,” The Weeknd expressed. “Toronto is where I discovered my voice, and I am dedicated to helping the next generation find theirs. That’s why I’m proud to support the Boys & Girls Club of West Scarborough and my former high school, Birchmount Park, providing youth with the resources to reach their full potential.”
In celebration of The Weeknd Weekend and his dedication to supporting the Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute and the Boys & Girls Club of West Scarborough, the CN Tower will light up in his honor.
Throughout his impressive career, The Weeknd has received numerous Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Juno Awards. As one of the best-selling artists in history, he has sold over 75 million records and has achieved seven diamond certifications from the RIAA.
