In a delightful union of comedic legacies, Eddie Murphy’s son, Eric Murphy, wed Jasmin Lawrence, daughter of Martin Lawrence.
During an interview with Extra’s Terri Seymour at the Los Angeles premiere of his latest action-comedy, The Pickup, Murphy expressed his thoughts on his expanding family.
“We’ve been friends for many years. So, it’s really nice to say, ‘Hey, now we’re family.’ Martin and I go way back,” Murphy remarked.
Seymour inquired, “What are family gatherings like?”
“Quite normal. I think people assume… that jokes are just flying around — but it’s not like that,” he replied.
Murphy also shared his thoughts on how humorous a grandchild might be.
“Oh, absolutely! Those genes — just imagine how funny that kid will be!”
Chuckling, he continued, “And I have a feeling the child might end up being utterly serious.”
In The Pickup, Murphy stars alongside Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson. Being a fellow SNL alum, Murphy expressed his enthusiasm about working with Davidson.
“I was really eager to collaborate with him. I was already a fan from ‘SNL,’ and we share so much in common. We both started stand-up when we were very young and joined ‘Saturday Night Live’ at an early age, plus we both lost our dads while we were still young,” Murphy elaborated. “We have a strong connection, and he represents a new generation of ‘SNL.’ I love collaborating with ‘SNL’ alums; I feel a bond with all of them.”
While Murphy may have offered Davidson some comedic tips, he didn’t dispense any parenting advice.
“I didn’t give him any parenting tips. You know, every kid is unique… You really just have to navigate it yourself. The good thing is that nature gives us the instinct to do right by our kids,” he stated. “I believe it takes more effort to be a bad parent. If you love your child, you really have to try hard to mess things up. Doing the right thing comes naturally. So, I didn’t share any advice.”
